| Details: The Dow Chemical Company's Insurance Operations group has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Senior Finance Specialist, located in at World Headquarters in Midland, Michigan. This position is responsible for insurance accounting, reporting and analysis. The Insurance Operations group works closely with Corporate Risk Management, business leaders and external clients to manage Dow's risk profile, both internally and externally. The Senior Finance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of Dow's insurance subsidiaries' financial statements, as well as being responsible for statutory reporting for certain Dow insurance subsidiaries (both annually and quarterly).  Critical responsibilities include:  Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the financial statements through: Actively participating in month-and quarter-end closing processes Analyzing activity to help estimate and understand changes in financial results Preparing account reconciliations Develop an understanding of Dow's insurance system, eventually becoming a subject matter expert in the system Analyze and record the financial impact of certain Dow-related insurance programs Ensure an adequate and effective system of internal controls is maintained at all times Preparation and review of rating agency (A.M. Best) supplemental rating questionnaire based on A.M. Best's requirements Assist in the preparation of statutory reporting requirements Ad hoc projects as determined by the Controller  The successful candidate will have an accounting background that will be the foundation for learning the insurance rules, reporting, terminology and work processes. The incumbent will posses strong interpersonal communication skills and will be a dedicated team member. Being detail oriented and able to take initiative are also competencies that are desired. Strong leadership skills will benefit the candidate as well as the ability to step outside of a process or operating discipline to assess and analyze the overall need and situation.  At Dow, we are harnessing the power of science and technology to improve the lives of people around the world.
